Do I have to pay a deductible for hail damage to my roof? Do I have options?
Wind and Hail Homeowners Policy Deductibles
Say you only carry a $1,000 all peril home insurance deductible and you need to make a $5,000 claim after a hail storm damages the shingles on your roof…..This means if the damage is caused by wind or hail, the claim will only be subject to a $1000 deductible.
What is a % deductible?
Meaning, if your house is insured for $200,000 and your policy has a 1% hurricane deductible, $2,000 would be deducted from the claim payment. If the damage amounted to $15,000, your reimbursement would be $13,000 after you pay your deductible. Many homes on the NJ Shore are required to carry 1%, 2%, up to 5% wind/hail deductibles.
